The Anglican Church began in England in the 16th Century as an attempt to reform catholic Christianity. Today the Anglican Communion numbers about 70 million strong, is found in 164 countries and includes many languages, races and cultures.
The Anglican Church of Canada has 30 regions, called dioceses. Each is led by a senior pastor called a Bishop. Our region is called the Diocese of Ontario and stretches from Trenton in the west, to Cardinal in the east, to Bancroft in the north. George Bruce is our bishop.
The Anglican Church tends to be “loose around the edges and firm at the centre.” It seeks to balance Word and Sacrament. It tries to be clear on core essentials, but also comprehensive and inclusive. It is liturgical and respects tradition, yet it is also tries to be open to contemporary wisdom.
