Baptisms -People commit their lives to Christ through baptism. Through this sacrament of initiation they join his Church and begin their journey of faith. At St. James’ baptisms are celebrated during Sunday morning liturgies. The rector prepares candidates prior to administering this sacrament.
Confirmations -When individuals make a mature decision to follow Jesus and continue in the faith they were baptized into, they mark this step with confirmation. In this rite, the bishop lays hands on the confirmand and prays that the Holy Spirit would empower them for their life as a disciple of Christ. Preparation before confirmation often happens in a group format and is usually overseen by Val Michaelson.
Weddings -Marriage is the life-long union of a man and woman in the eyes of God. It is for their mutual comfort and encouragement and for procreation. Our rector prepares couples before they enter into this covenant, and our parish secretary oversees many of the scheduling and administrative details of weddings.
Funerals -We gather of say thanks to God for the life of a deceased loved one. In a Christian funeral we support one another in our grief, we look in hope to Christ for the promise of resurrection and we commend the departed to the love and justice of God.
