About The Event


The Kingston Baroque Consort presents “Christmas From the Courts – Music Fit for a King” on Friday 13 November, 5:15pm-6pm, at St James Church (10 Union St, Kingston).



The program will include Concerto Pastorale (Christmas Concerto) by Johann Christoph Pez, as well as music by Maria Margherita Grimani, Jean-Baptiste Lully, and G.F. Handel.

Step into the magnificent musical courts of 18th-century Europe with the Kingston Baroque Consort. Hear music from the British court of King George the First, including the sparkling Overture from Handel’s Xerxes. Travel to the glittering French court of Louis XIV with the majestic Overture and Chaconne from Lully’s Phaëton. Journey to the Bavarian court of Elector Maximilian II Emanuel for Johann Christoph Pez’s delightful Concerto Pastorale for two recorders, strings and continuo, featuring special guest recorder player Jill Frick. Discover the beautiful Sinfonia from Pallade e Marte by Maria Margherita Grimani, one of the remarkable women composers of the Baroque era.



The Kingston Baroque Consort was founded in 2021 as an orchestra devoted to historically informed practice of music from the Baroque era. Founded by Katie Legere, Jeff Hamacher, Julia McFarlane, and Michael Capon, the KBC is a collective of professional musicians drawn from the Kingston Symphony Orchestra and the wider community.
